Ok, now this cannot apply to all boiler inspectors, but it makes sense. They have to hate tankless water heaters. Tankless water heaters, since they are under 200K btus, are not boilers. Therefore, they do not require the same amount of care from a boiler inspector. That means, fewer jobs...
But, on the other hand, they are state employees, right?
Well, a customer of mine purchased some Takagis from me. The boiler inspector said that it was $250 per unit and he had to have the machines stamped as boilers EVEN THOUGH THEY WERE NOT BOILERS!!!!! Well, this did not sound right to me. So, I called the chief of the boiler inspection group (that collects needless money from small business owners so that the State of Tennessee can spend it on useless programs). He said this:
YOU DO NEED A PERMIT ($65 total). They will be inspected once, but not every two years like a boiler.
MAKE SURE YOU KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON BEFORE YOU SIGN THOSE CHECKS!!!!
